Review – Valkyrie

This was far more boring than it needed to be. The most famous of German plots to kill Hitler should have been a fascinating story, but somewhere here it gets lost in a load of bureaucratic intrigue. I suppose generals scheming to assassinate their leader might well have been akin to faculty members squabbling over budget cuts, but that reality didn’t need to end up on the screen. It didn’t help that they hired Tom Cruise to play Von Staufenberg. Even all these years later, his presence lends a production a certain Top Gun quality, most unwelcome here. What a disappointment.
