As promised, here are the answers to last week's quiz. If you haven't done the quiz yet, view the previous post before reading this one. Oh, and credit where credit is due: this website provided the slang.
Bees in a Thicket - Firework
Flap Dragon - STD
Jumping Bug - Fireworks
Blue Boars - STD
Fire Ship - STD
Hot Pot - Fireworks
Burner - STD
Nimgimmer - STD
Tonga Exotica - Fireworks
Autumn Drizzle - Fireworks
Crinkums - STD
Nutty Monkey - Fireworks
Cats in the Cupboard - Fireworks
I guessed correctly about Crinkums. I have no idea how I knew it (it was the only one I knew). Perhaps that is what killed me in a previous life.
ReplyDeleteThe history of "crinkums" traces back to Shakespeare's time, so in theory you could have been felled by this dread scourge in five or six previous lives.
ReplyDeleteDictionaries also suggest "crinkum crankum" as a variation.
And as long as I'm following up, I should note that "fire ship" is actually slang for a woman with an STD, not the disease itself. And "nimgimmer" is a doctor who specializes in treating STDs.
Okay, that's enough disgusting etymology for one evening.
"Crinkums" would make a nice name for a kitten. "Nimgimmer" isn't bad either.
ReplyDeleteLovely quiz! Very holiday festive!
